Several things to muse about today:
*Today is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Pope
Francis certainly embodies a lot of the spirit of
St. Francis in his care for the poor, this being close to
the people, and his joy. As we honor St. Francis today,
we pray for Pope Francis as he leads our church with
Godly love.
*This is Respect Life Sunday. We continue to pray that
all human life is respected, from conception to natural
death. Jesus' teachings call us to respect all human life,
and the 10 Commandments remind us not to kill. As a
church, we take those teachings seriously.
*Next weekend we'll have a visiting priest speaking
about the ministry of Unbound (used to be called
Christian Foundation for Children and the Aging).
Many of us at St. Peter have been sponsoring a
person in a third world country through this good
organization. I've been associated with them for many
years and am pleased to have Fr. Anthony come and tell
us about their good work.
*I'll be out of town for 9 days. Monday-Thursday I'll
be at the annual Priest Convocation in Newport
(required priest meetings) and Thursday evening I'll fly
to El Paso to visit the mission I stayed at last winter
while I was studying Spanish. I'll return Tuesday the
13th. Let's keep praying for one another.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
Catholic Doctrine is the collection of
teaching of the Church. The doctrines or
teachings of the Church are presented in
the Catechism of the Catholic Church and they
communicate the Church's understanding of the truths about
the innermost being of God, chosen to share with us and
teach us. The doctrines of the Church are not abstract
propositions or academic definitions, but privileged ways of
encountering the personal reality of God which have been
revealed through God’s glorious manifestations and
teachings in salvation history.

Adult Faith Formation
The Joy of the Gospel (Evangelii Gaudium) is a fantastic
document that will have a deep impact on our Church for several
generations. It is also a LONG document. Pope Francis covers a
tremendous amount of ground. As always, the best option is
to read the document yourself and then use blogs, etc. for reflection
and study later. “The Joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of
all who encounter Jesus. Those who accept his offer of salvation
are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness. With
Christ joy is constantly born anew. Our Holy Father wishes to
encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of
evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths
for the Church’s journey in years to come”.
Varias cosas que pensar hoy:
* Hoy es la fiesta de San Francisco de Asís. Francisco, sin duda
representa una gran parte del espíritu de San Francisco en su
atención a los pobres, acercándose a la gente, y teniendo mucha
alegría. Al honrar a San Francisco hoy, oremos por el Papa
Francisco porque él dirige nuestra iglesia con amor piadoso.
Este domingo es dedicado al Respeto a la Vida. Seguimos
orando que toda vida humana sea respetada desde la concepción
hasta la muerte natural. Las enseñanzas de Jesús nos llaman a
respetar toda vida humana, y los 10 Mandamientos nos
recuerdan que no debemos matar. Como iglesia, tomamos esas
enseñanzas en serio.
* La próxima semana tendremos un sacerdote visitante que
hablará del ministerio de Desatados (que antes se llamaba
Fundación Cristiana para Niños y Ancianos). Muchos de
nosotros en San Pedro hemos patrocinando a personas en países
del tercer mundo a través de esta buena organización. He sido
asociado con ellos durante muchos años y estoy contento de
tener al Padre Anthony con nosotros para que nos cuente acerca
de su buen trabajo.
* Voy a estar fuera de la ciudad durante 9 días. De lunes a
jueves estaré en la Convocatoria Sacerdotal anual en Newport
(las reuniones con todos los sacerdotes es necesario) y el jueves
por la noche voy a volar a El Paso para visitar la misión de me
alojé el invierno pasado, mientras estaba estudiando español.
Volveré el martes 13.

Formación de Fe de Adultos
La Alegría del Evangelio (Evangelii Gaudium) es un documento
fantástico que tendrá un profundo impacto en nuestra Iglesia durante
varias generaciones. También es un documento largo. Francisco
abarca una enorme cantidad de información. Como siempre, la mejor
opción es leer el documento tú mismo y luego utilizar los blogs, etc.,
para la reflexión y el estudio posterior. "La alegría del Evangelio llena
los corazones y las vidas de todos los que se encuentran con Jesús.
Los que aceptan su oferta de salvación son liberados del pecado, la
tristeza, del vacío interior y la soledad. Con la alegría de Cristo
constantemente, uno nace de nuevo. Nuestro Santo Papa desea alentar
a los fieles cristianos a embarcarse en un nuevo capítulo de la
evangelización marcada por esta alegría, al tiempo que señala nuevos

Formación en la Fe
Sacramental Preparation for parents begins THIS Wednesday. If
you have a child in Year 2 of Faith Formation, please plan to attend
Wednesday’s meeting. Any questions, contact Shelly at parish
office. In October, we will be honoring the saints. Students are
being asked to bring in pictures/stories/drawings of the saints in their
lives to create a giant collage. These may be dropped off anytime,
outside Shelly’s office. Please don’t bring in original photos, as we
cannot promise they won’t be damaged.
If you are able to contribute money to help us purchase (4) large
cakes for Jose’s parish reception in celebration of him becoming a
Deacon (October 25 at 2pm), please submit your money to the parish
office/or give to Shelly in marked envelope. Any additional funds
collected will be given to Jose to purchase necessary books.
Preparación Sacramental para los padres comienza este miércoles. Si
usted tiene un niño en el 2 año de Formación de la Fe, por favor

Thank You! I so appreciated all the well wishes and prayers on my
behalf, last week, as we journeyed to see the ‘Head of our Catholic
family on Earth’ Pope Francis in Philadelphia! The Holy Spirit’s
power electrified the week around the simply fact that, "He’s
coming!”. The love of God seemed to unify everything and
everyone. It felt like a giant family reunion of distant cousins each
wanting to know you and be known. Really, a taste of heaven on
earth with everyone acting like the Christians we are called to
be - loving others as we want to be loved. Generosity was in
abundance. We accomplished our mission of living as a family, fully
alive. Put simply, ‘Blessed by the Best!’

Hijas Católicas Si u ¡Yo lo aprecié todos sus buenos deseos y
oraciones en mi nombre, la semana pasada, mientras viajabamos a ver
el 'Jefe de nuestra familia católica en la Tierra' Francisco en
Filadelfia! El poder del Espíritu Santo electrizó a la semana alrededor
del simple hecho de que, "¡Él viene!". El amor de Dios parecía
unificar a todos. Se sentía como una reunión familiar gigante de
primos lejanos y que nos íbamos a conocer mejor. Realmente, fue un
trocito del cielo en la tierra con todo el mundo actuando como los
cristianos que somos llamados a ser - amar a los demás como
queremos ser amados en abundancia. Logramos nuestra misión de

Family Faith Sharing Questions
We encourage parents to reflect on these
questions at home each week with their children
and family. October 4 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time
** Mark 10:2-16**
In order to test Jesus, the Pharisees ask him whether it is lawful for a
man and woman to get a divorce. Jesus answers by asking them a
question, “What did Moses command you?” They reply that Moses
permitted it. Then Jesus explains how the law Moses gave was in
fact necessary, but that it was not the way God had first intended
things to be. He reminds them of the creation story, and that because
the man and woman become ‘one flesh’ they must not separate.
The townspeople are bringing their children to Jesus so he can bless
them, and the disciples try to stop them. Jesus says, “Let the children
come to me.” He says the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are
childlike, and only those who accept the Kingdom as a child does
will be able to enter it. The disciples must have been sad to hear
Jesus speak about divorce. God created us to be perfect, but because
of sin we go through all kinds of struggles in our lives. Out of love,
God forgives us and continues to call us to himself.
How can you show God’s love to someone who is suffering because
of divorce?
How do you think Jesus felt to have all the children gathered around
him? What does it mean for a grownup to be ‘childlike’?
Look at the examples in the Bible story for hints.

27 º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
**Marcos 10:2-16**
Con el fin de poner a prueba a Jesús, los fariseos le preguntan si está
bien conseguir un divorcio. Jesús responde haciéndoles una pregunta:
"¿Qué nos mandó Moisés?" Ellos responden que Moisés lo permitió.
Luego Jesús explica diciendo, “Moisés, al escribir esta ley, tomo en
cuenta lo tercos que eran ustedes. Pero, al principio de la creación,
Dios los hizo hombre y mujer.” Luego les recuer-da la historia de la
creación, y que debido a que el hombre y la mujer se convirtieron en
‘una sola carne’, no deben separarse. La gentedel pueblo empieza a
traer niños hacia Jesús para que él pue-da bendecirlos y los discípulos
tratan de detenerlos. Jesús dice: "Dejad que los niños vengan a mí".
El les dice que el Reino de Dios pertenece a los que son como niños,
y sólo los que acepten el Reino como un niño serán capaces de entrar
en él. Dios nos creó para ser perfectos, pero por amor, Él nos perdona
y nos sigue llamando a sí mismo.
¿Cómo podemos mostrar el amor de Dios a alguien que está sufriendo a causa del divorcio?
¿Cómo crees que se sintió Jesús cuando todos los niños se reunieron
alrededor de él? ¿Qué significa para una persona mayor, ser como
niños?
Para ayudarte, mira a los ejemplos en la Biblia.

Pre-School Corner
The first day of fall was this past week. God
is giving us a wonderful new painting with lots of colors. We have
started learning to print our alphabet. Lots to remember....hold our
pencil correctly, keep the paper on the table and always look what
we are doing. Johnny Appleseed Day was on Friday, we made apple
turnovers. What a yummy treat.

Attention Parents of Babies and Toddlers:
Do we need a nursery?
Senior Abby Reohr is focusing her senior project on ways to support
our parish’s families with young children. To begin, Abby is
seeking a parent pool of volunteers who would be willing to rotate in
once a month, in exchange for free use of the weekly nursery service
run primarily be our parish HS teens. If you would be interested,
please contact her at: (503) 858-5069. Note: All interested adults
must be background checked and attend ‘safe environment’ training
with Shelly Didway.

grande es Dios al darnos una pintura nueva y con maravillosos
colores a nuestro alrededor. Ellos han comenzado a aprender a
imprimir el alfabeto. Hay mucho que recordar.... "Mantenga el lápiz
correctamente". "Mantenga el papel sobre la mesa y siempre mire lo

Guardería de Niños? Abby Reohr está centrando su proyecto de alto
nivel sobre las formas de apoyo a las familias de nuestra parroquia
con niños pequeños. Para empezar, Abby está buscando padres
voluntarios que estarían dispuestos a tomar su turno una vez al mes,
en cambio de acceso gratuito al servicio de guardería. Si está i
