Did You Know?
St. Valentine who was martyred on February
14, 270 A.D. during the persecution of the Roman
Emperor Claudius is the patron saint for greetings.
According to popular tradition, on the eve of his
death, St. Valentine wrote a final farewell note to a
young girl named Julia (who was blind since birth
and who through his intercession her blindness was
miraculously cured) in which he encouraged her to
stay close to God.
It is in that spirit each year on February 14 th
that messages of affection, love and devotion are
exchanged worldwide.

St. John-Visitation Parish depends upon the

Stations of the Cross on Fridays
During the Fridays in Lent, our parish will
be praying the Stations of the Cross (Via Crucis)
after the 12:15 pm and 7:00 pm Masses. This
traditional Lenten devotion commemorates the 14
stops along the Via Dolorosa ("the way of sorrow")
by recalling Jesus' journey from Pilate's court and
the praetorium to Calvary and to the tomb.
Monday Schedule
In observance of the Presidents' Day national
holiday on Monday February15th, the parish office
will be closed and the only Mass will be celebrated at
9:00 AM.

Remembering Persecuted Christians
In a recent mailing to parishes, Cardinal
Dolan noted that "On February 15, 2015, the world
learned of the murder of twenty-one Coptic
Christians at the hands of ISIS terrorists in Libya. At
the time, our Holy Father, Pope Francis, referred to
the witness of these brave Christians as 'a testimony
with cries out to be heard.' In solidarity with our
persecuted brothers and sisters throughout the world,
I invite our priests to celebrate Mass on February 15
using the Mass for Persecuted Christians. During
this Lent season, let us be unite in prayer for our
suffering brothers and sisters as we prepare to
celebrate the joy and peace of Christ's resurrection."
Meeting for Holy Land Pilgrimage
Mr. Tony Tannousis, President of TriStar
Tours, Inc. will be hosting a meeting for those who
have already paid deposits or would like further
information about our parish's Holy Land pilgrimage
for the Year of Mercy on Sunday March 6th at 1:00
pm in the St. John-Visitation Parish Pastoral. The
Super Saver discount advertised in the flyer will be
extended to March 6th. Information flyers and
brochures about this Holy Land pilgrimage are
available in the church and parish center.
Daughters of St. Paul Book Exhibit
The Daughters of St. Paul, a community of
religious sisters whose apostolate is media and
communications, will be having a book exhibit at our
parish on the weekend of February 27-28 downstairs
in the lower church meeting room. A wide variety of
religious articles, books and resources (bibles, music
CD’s, DVD’s, children’s books, etc) both in English
and Spanish, will be available for purchase. Cash,
personal checks, and major credit cards are accepted
as forms of payment.
Take this opportunity to deepen your
personal spiritual life and to learn more about the
Catholic faith, the sacraments, and the teachings of
the Church during this Lenten Season and the Jubilee
Year of Mercy.
Not Married in the Catholic Church?
For various reasons, couples choose to be
civilly married but did not have a religious
celebration in the Catholic Church. According to
Church teaching, Catholics who marry are required
to have their unions celebrated in the Catholic
Church in order to participate in the church’s
sacramental life.
As recent parent meetings for sacramental
preparation have risen, this situation often poses
problems for families raising children. For those who
are civilly married and did not have a previous
marriage celebrated in the Catholic Church that
requires an annulment, the process to have the
marriage validated or blessed by the Catholic
Church is usually not complicated.
The chapel at the St. John-Visitation Parish
Pastoral Center offers a fine setting for marriage
validations and has already been used for this
purpose. If you find yourself in this situation, please
consider making an appointment to speak with Fr.
Kerrigan or Fr. Antonio to discuss what may be
done.

events and activities, that are often not included in
our parish bulletin due to space limitation, are posted
on the church bulletin boards. You may wish to take
the time to read them and perhaps something may
interest you.
The 2016 Cardinal’s Appeal has begun!

before others, that they may see your good deeds and
glorify our heavenly Father."

During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we are
called to help one another and be merciful, as Jesus
is for all of us. It is only with your help that the
Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal continues to
be a beacon of hope for our brothers and sisters
through our ministries and charities.
This year's goal for St. John-Visitation
Parish is $67,000. Please consider supporting this
year's Cardinal's Appeal.

Viernes de Estaciones de la Cruz
Durante los viernes de Cuaresma, nuestra
parroquia estará orando las Estaciones de la Cruz
(Vía Crucis) después de las misas de la 12:15 pm y
las 7:00 pm. Esta Cuaresma, tradicional conmemora
las 14 paradas a lo largo de la Vía Dolorosa ( "el
camino del dolor"), recordando el viaje de Jesús de
la corte de Pilato y el pretorio al Calvario y la
tumba.

San Juan Visitación depende de las

Horario el Lunes
En observancia del día de fiesta nacional del Día
de los Presidentes el lunes February15th, la oficina
parroquial estará cerrada y la única misa será celebrada
a las 9:00 AM.
Recordando a los Cristianos Perseguidos
En un reciente correo a las parroquias, el
Cardenal Dolan señaló que "El 15 de febrero de 2015, el
mundo se enteró de la muerte de veintiún cristianos coptos
a manos de los terroristas ISIS en Libia. En ese momento,
nuestro Santo Padre, Francisco, a que se refiere el
testimonio de estos valientes cristianos como "un
testimonio con gritos a ser escuchado. ' En solidaridad
con nuestros hermanos y hermanas perseguidos en todo el
mundo, invito a nuestros sacerdotes para celebrar la misa
el 15 usando la misa por los cristianos perseguidos.
Febrero durante esta temporada de Cuaresma, seamos
unidos en oración por nuestros hermanos y hermanas que
sufren mientras nos preparamos para celebrar la alegría y
la paz de la resurrección de Cristo".
Reunión para Peregrinación a la Tierra Santa
Sr. Tony Tannousis, presidente de TriStar Tours,
Inc. será el anfitrión de una reunión para aquellos que ya
han pagado depósitos o si desea más información sobre el
peregrinaje a la Tierra Santa de nuestra parroquia para el
Año de la Misericordia el domingo 6 de marzo a las 1:00
PM en el San Juan-Visitación Centro Pastoral. El
descuento Super Ahorro anunciado en el folleto se
extenderá hasta el 6 de marzo. Volantes y folletos
informativos sobre esta peregrinación Tierra Santa están
disponibles en el centro de la iglesia y parroquia.
Hijas de St. Paul Exposiciones de Libros
Las Hijas de St. Paul, una comunidad de
religiosas cuyo apostolado es de medios y
comunicaciones, va a tener una exposición de libros en
nuestra parroquia el fin de semana del mes de febrero 2728, en la sala de reuniones de la iglesia inferior. Una
amplia variedad de artículos religiosos, libros y recursos
(biblias, música de CD, DVD, libros infantiles, etc.), tanto
en Inglés y Español, estará disponible para su compra.
Dinero en efectivo, cheques personales y las tarjetas de
crédito son aceptados como forma de pago.
Aprovechar esta oportunidad para profundizar en
su vida espiritual personal y para aprender más sobre la
fe católica, los sacramentos, y las enseñanzas de la Iglesia
durante este tiempo de Cuaresma y el Año Jubilar de la
Misericordia.
No son Casados en la Iglesia Católica?
Por diversas razones, las parejas pueden optar
por matrimonio civil, pero no tenían una celebración
religiosa en la Iglesia Católica. De acuerdo con la
enseñanza de la Iglesia, los católicos que se casan están
obligados a tener sus uniones que se celebran en la Iglesia
Católica con el fin de participar en la vida sacramental de
la iglesia.
Como las últimas reuniones de padres para la
preparación sacramental se han incrementado, esta
situación plantea a menudo problemas para las familias
con hijos. Para aquellos que están casados civilmente y no
tienen un matrimonio anterior celebrada en la Iglesia
Católica que requiere una anulación, el proceso tiene que
validar su matrimonio o bendecido por la Iglesia Católica
por lo general no es complicado.
La capilla de la San Juan-Visitación Centro
Pastoral dispone de un lugar excelente para las
validaciones de matrimonio y ya ha sido utilizado para
este propósito. Si usted se encuentra en esta situación, por
favor considere hacer una cita para hablar con el P.
Kerrigan o P. Antonio para discutir lo que puede hacer.

permite que la Campaña Anual de
Corresponsabilidad del Cardenal siga siendo una luz
de esperanza para nuestros hermanos y hermanas a
través de nuestros ministerios y caridades. La meta
de este año de San Juan-Visitación es $ 67,000. Por
favor considere apoyar la Campaña del Cardenal de
este año.
