Explore the scriptural roots of the Jubilee Year
of Mercy on Saturday June 18th at Cathedral High
School (East 55th Street and First Avenue) from 8:005:00 pm. Sean Cardinal O'Malley, Archbishop of
Boston will be the principal celebrant and homilist at
the Mass. Key note speakers will be Rev. Donald
Senior, CP, Editor of the Catholic Bible Study and
Archbishop Octavio Ruis Arenas, Secretary of the
Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New
Evangelization, Vatican City. Workshops will be

Parish Pilgrimage to the Holy Land
October 31-November 10, 2016
To date, 60 participants have registered for our
parish's Holy Land Tour in celebration of the Jubilee
Year of Mercy this Fall. TriStar Tours has made
arrangements for up to 70 to take part in this Holy
Land pilgrimage.
Initial cost is $2098 per person based on
double occupancy with round trip flights from Newark
to Tel-Aviv, 8 night hotel accommodations, daily
breakfast and dinner, and sightseeing of various
biblical sites. With the supplemental cost $795 for
airport taxes/security fees, fuel surcharge, gratuities to
guides, drivers, and hotel personnel, this brings the
total cost to $2893.

Did You Know?
The wooden altar in the chapel in the St. JohnVisitation Parish Pastoral Center (which was moved
from St. Gregory the Great Parish, Harrison, NY this
past February) depicts the image of a pelican feeding
little pelicans. The symbolism of the mother pelican
wounding herself to feed her young during a time of
famine is an ancient legend that predates Christianity.
Early Christians adapted this image to
symbolize Jesus' dying and giving His life for our
redemption and the salvation of world. Having this
image carved on the front of the wooden altar reminds
us that the Lord Jesus Christ continues to feed us with
His body and blood in the Sacrament of the Holy
Eucharist.
Taste of Guatemala
The Taste of Guatemala is an event to raise
much needed funds for the Friends of San Lucas and
Mayan Families, two organizations dedicated to
providing services to the poor, indigenous populations
surrounding Lake Atitlan. Coffee and raffle tickets ($1
per ticket; 6 for $5 and book of 12 for $10) are being
sold after our parish Masses this weekend.
The Taste of Guatemala event will be held on
Friday, June 24th at the Youth Center for the Basilica
of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Tickets are $25 per person. For more information, visit

Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Over 80 people gathered for the May 31st
outdoor recitation of the Scriptural Joyful Mysteries of
the Rosary and the May crowning of the Lady of
Fatima statue at the Visitation parish site. Many
thanks to the St. Anne's Guild for hosting the
reception along with all those who attended.
As the merged St. John-Visitation parish
community, may we commit ourselves to honor our
past, celebrate our present, and embrace our future.

parish bulletin due to space limitation, are posted on
the church bulletin boards. You may wish to take the
time to read them and perhaps something may interest
you.
Not Married in the Catholic Church?
For various reasons, couples choose to be
civilly married but did not have a religious celebration
in the Catholic Church. According to Church
teaching, Catholics who marry are required to have
their unions celebrated in the Catholic Church in order
to participate in the church’s sacramental life.
For those who are civilly married and did not
have a previous marriage celebrated in the Catholic
Church that requires an annulment, the process to
have the marriage validated or blessed by the Catholic
Church is usually not complicated.
The chapel at the St. John-Visitation Parish
Pastoral Center offers a fine setting for marriage
validations and has already been used for this purpose.
If you find yourself in this situation, please consider
making an appointment to speak with Fr. Kerrigan or
Fr. Antonio to discuss what may be done.

Peregrinación parroquia a la Tierra Santa

Al día, más de 60 participantes se han inscrito para
Tierra Santa tour de nuestra parroquia en la celebración del
Año Jubilar de la Misericordia este otoño. TriStar Tours ha
hecho arreglos para un máximo de 70 para participar en esta
peregrinación Tierra Santa.
El costo inicial es $ 2098 por persona en base
habitación doble con vuelos de ida y vuelta desde Newark a
Tel-Aviv, 8 noches de alojamiento, desayuno y la cena, y
visitas de varios lugares bíblicos. Con el costo suplementario
de $ 795 para las tasas de aeropuerto / cargos de seguridad,
recargo por combustible, propinas a guías, conductores y
personal del hotel, esto trae el costo total de $ 2,893.

¿Sabías que...?
El altar de madera en la capilla en el Centro
Pastoral de la Parroquia San Juan-Visitación (que fue
trasladado desde la parroquia de San Gregorio Magno,
Harrison, NY este pasado Febrero) muestra la imagen
de un pelícano alimentando pequeño pelícanos. El
simbolismo de la madre pelícano hiriendo a sí misma
para alimentar a sus crías durante un tiempo de
hambre es una antigua leyenda que precede a la
Cristiandad.
Los primeros cristianos adaptaron esta imagen
para simbolizar que Jesús muriendo y dando su vida
por nuestra redención y la salvación del mundo. Tras
esta imagen tallada en la parte frontal del altar de
madera nos recuerda que el Señor Jesucristo sigue
alimentándonos con su cuerpo y Su sangre en el
sacramento de la Eucaristía.
El sabor de Guatemala
El sabor de Guatemala es un evento para recaudar
fondos tan necesarios para los Amigos de San Lucas y las
familias mayas, dos organizaciones dedicadas a la prestación
de servicios a las poblaciones pobres, indígenas que rodean el
lago Atitlán. Café y boletos de la rifa ($ 1 por boleto; 6 por $
5 y libro de 12 por $ 10) están siendo vendidos después de
las misas de la parroquia este fin de semana.
El evento Sabor de Guatemala se llevará a cabo el
viernes 24 de junio en el Centro Juvenil de la basílica de la
catedral vieja de San Patricio de 6:00-9:00 p.m. Los boletos
cuestan $ 25 por persona. Para obtener más información,

Visitación de la Virgen María
Más de 80 personas se reunieron para rezar al aire
libre el 31 de mayo para rezar las bíblicas Misterios Gozosos
del Rosario y la coronación de mayo de la estatua de la
Virgen de Fátima en el lugar de la parroquia Visitación.
Muchas gracias al Gremio de Santa Ana para la celebración
de la recepción junto con todos los que asistieron.

Iglesia Católica que requiere una anulación, el proceso
tiene que validar su matrimonio o bendecido por la
Iglesia Católica por lo general no es complicado.
La capilla del Centro Pastoral San JuanVisitación dispone de un lugar excelente para las
validaciones de matrimonio y ya ha sido utilizado para
este propósito. Si usted se encuentra en esta situación,
por favor considere hacer una cita para hablar con el
Padre Kerrigan o el Padre Antonio para discutir lo que
puede hacer.
