Did You Know?
Pope Gregory IX instituted Trinity Sunday in
828 AD. This day is notable in being the only occasion
that celebrates a church doctrine rather than an event
in sacred history. It is dedicated to the essential
Christian belief in the Trinity as one God in three
divine persons (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) and is
celebrated each year on the Sunday following
Pentecost.
An Easter Season of Growth & Blessing
This past Easter Season was a time of growth
and blessing for our St. John-Visitation Parish
community. During the 50 days from the Easter Vigil
through Pentecost Sunday, the sacramental
celebrations included three adults who were fully
initiated at the Easter Vigil (Baptism, Confirmation,
Holy Communion); two of them had children joining
them, one school aged child who was baptized with her
father and another had his son join him in celebrating
First Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil. One man
who was previously baptized in another Christian
denomination made a Profession of Faith as a Roman
Catholic, was confirmed, and celebrated Holy
Eucharist. Eighteen school aged children were
baptized at various parish Masses and fourteen infants
were baptized in the Easter Season. Two adults were
confirmed at the Easter Vigil and three others were
confirmed on Pentecost Sunday by Fr. Antonio.
The witness and example of others who
inspired them to seek sacramental celebrations, the
support of family, friends, and parishioners, and the
religious instruction by our parish staff and parish
religious education program are signs of the vitality of
the Catholic faith in our Kingsbridge community.
While not the addition of 3000 who were
baptized following Peter's Pentecost speech (Acts
2:41), these numbers are impressive and encouraging
signs that the Catholic faith continues to grow in our
midst, contrary to what some contemporary naysayers
may want us to think about the Catholic Church.

Ordination Anniversary for Fr. Herbert DeGaris
Rev. Herbert T. DeGaris, a former
Kingsbridge resident who grew up as a member of
Visitation Parish and was a Boy Scout of St. John's
Troop 459 where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout
and Assistant Scoutmaster will be celebrating his 25th
anniversary of ordination to the priesthood.
To mark this special occasion, Fr. Herbert
DeGaris will be celebrating the 11:30 am Mass at
Immaculate Conception Church, 26 John Street, Stony
Point, New York on Sunday June 5th, Following the
Mass, the parish will be having a light collation. For

Memorial Day Weekend Schedule
The St. John-Visitation Parish Offices and
Parish Pastoral Center will be closed next weekend
(Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29th) in
observance of the Memorial Day weekend.
Bus Trip to Gate of Heaven Cemetery
The St. Joseph Council Knights of Columbus
will be having their annual bus trip to Gate of Heaven
Cemetery on Sunday May 29th. Tickets are $10 per

Baby Bottles For Life Campaign
Having begun Mother's Day and continuing
through Father's Day June 19th, empty baby bottles
will be available at the Church entrance to support
Expectant Mother Care Pregnancy Care Centers
(EMC) throughout New York City. Now in their 31st
year, EMC annually counsels thousands of distraught
expectant moms by providing free testing, ultrasound,
practical and spiritual assistance. Your gift saves lives.
Please return bottles with your donations (coins, cash,
check) by Sunday June 19th to the church or parish

May 31st Celebration at Visitation Parish Site
As a way to mark the merger of our
Kingsbridge parish community and to recall the
Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrated
annually on May 31st, a Scriptural rosary and May
crowning will be held that evening beginning at 7:00
pm.
This outdoor prayer service will take place
near the statue of the Visitation on the lawn outside the
former rectory/parish office (160 Van Cortlandt Park
South). The statue of Our Lady of Fatima, formerly in
Visitation Church and presently in the lower church of
our merged parish community will be used for the May
crowning. The church building is unable to be used
due to an active roof leak and significant interior water
damage since the church building was shuttered for
use on a regular basis,
The parking lot will be open and following the
outdoor prayer service, light refreshments will be
served in the auditorium courtesy of the St. Anne's
Guild. Please spread the word and plan on attending
the May 31st celebration at the former Visitation
parish site.

Un Tiempo de Pascua de Crecimiento y Bendición
Este pasado tiempo de Pascua fue una época
de crecimiento y bendición para nuestra comunidad de
St. John-Visitación. Durante los 50 días a partir de la
Vigilia de Pascua hasta Pentecostés, las celebraciones
sacramentales incluyen tres adultos que fueron
completamente iniciado en la Vigilia de Pascua
(Bautismo, Confirmación, la Santa Comunión); dos de
ellos tenían los niños uniéndose con ellos, niño de
edad escolar que fue bautizado con su padre y otro
tenía su hijo uniéndose con él en la celebración de la
Primera Comunión en la Vigilia de Pascua. Un
hombre que fue bautizado con anterioridad en otra
denominación cristiana hizo una profesión de fe como
católico, se confirmó, y celebró la Santa Eucaristía.
Dieciocho niños en edad escolar fueron bautizados en
varias misas parroquiales y catorce bebés fueron
bautizados en el tiempo de Pascua. Dos adultos fueron
confirmados en la Vigilia de Pascua y otros tres fueron
confirmados el domingo de Pentecostés por el Padre
Antonio.
El testimonio y el ejemplo de otros que las han
inspirado a buscar las celebraciones sacramentales, el
apoyo de familiares, amigos y feligreses, y la
instrucción religiosa por nuestro personal de la
parroquia y el programa de educación religiosa
parroquial son signos de la vitalidad de la fe católica
en nuestra comunidad de Kingsbridge.
Aunque no es la adición de 3000 que fueron
bautizados después del discurso de Pedro en
Pentecostés (Hechos 2:41), estas cifras son
impresionantes y signos alentadores de que la fe
católica sigue creciendo en medio de nosotros, al
contrario de lo que algunos detractores
contemporáneos pueden querer que pensemos la
Iglesia Católica.

Biberones para la Campaña de Vida

31 de mayo Celebración en la Parroquia Visitación
Como una manera de marcar la fusión de
nuestra comunidad parroquial Kingsbridge y recordar
la Visitación de la Virgen María que se celebra
anualmente el 31 de mayo, un rosario de la Escritura y
la coronación de mayo se llevará a cabo la noche
comenzando a las 7:00 pm.
Este servicio de oración al aire libre se llevará
a cabo cerca de la estatua de la Visitación en el jardín
fuera de la oficina de la rectoría / parroquial antigua
(160 Van Cortlandt Park South). La imagen de la
Virgen de Fátima, antes en Visitación Iglesia y en la
actualidad en la iglesia inferior de nuestra comunidad
parroquial fusionada será utilizado para la coronación
de mayo. El edificio de la iglesia no puede ser usado
debido a una gotera en el techo activa y daños
significativos del agua interior ya que el edificio de la
iglesia fue cerrada para uso de forma regular
El parqueo será abierto y siguiendo el servicio
de oración al aire libre, refrescos será servido en el
auditórium de cortesía Gremio de Santa Ana. Pasa la
voz y planee asistir a la celebración 31 de mayo a la
antigua parroquia de Visitación.
