Masses can be celebrated any day for living or deceased loved
ones. The Diocesan stipend is $15.00. What a beautiful way to
remember and honor those we love. We have beautiful Mass
cards for both the living and the deceased. If you would like a
Mass intention please contact the parish office. If you want the
name to appear in the Sunday bulletin, requests should be submitted before Monday.

Doing God’s Will
The language of Jeremiah as he addresses his yearnings to
God—he says, “You duped me, O LORD, and I let myself be
duped” (Jeremiah 20:7)—indicates a close and personal
relationship with God. It is one the prophet obviously
cherishes despite the derision and reproach it brings him. In
the Gospel, Jesus indicates a similar bond with his Father. In
spite of the difficult challenges presented by following God’s
will, Jesus is not deterred. Giving up our own worldly cares
and dreams, even as we accept pain and suffering, is more than
a fair exchange for doing the will of God.
The only way to do God’s will is offer our whole selves to
God. As St. Paul writes in the Letter to the Romans: “Do not
conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the
renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2a).
Summer Recital
Angela Modeste will be hosting a Summer Recital at 2:00pm on
Sunday, September 14, 2014 in the Church. Please join us for
a beautiful afternoon of song.
Labor Day
Tomorrow, Monday September 1st, is Labor Day in the United
States and Canada. Millions of people will go to recreation
areas to lay in the sun, take a swim, play a game, indulge in a
picnic, and to observe another summer rapidly coming to a
close. However, Labor Day began not as a day of rest and
relaxation but as a demonstration of concern and care for the
rights of labor, especially for those in the immense industrial
plants in wildly expanding cities. Owners of businesses and
industries regularly fired laborers who attempted to organize
other laborers into bargaining units. At one point, Federal
troops fired upon hundreds of striking railroad workers killing
several workers and wounding many more.
Our Catholic-Christian tradition has long stood hand in hand
with laborers struggling for their rights. Today workers are
still experiencing violations of their rights. As we enjoy this
year’s Labor Day let us not forget the millions of workers who
are still in bondage throughout the world. May this Labor Day
refresh us so that we will continue the holy struggle for workers rights everywhere.
Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta
September 5 is the 17th anniversary of the
death of Mother Teresa. In celebration of
her life and witness we will pray a Novena
asking her intercession for our needs and
for those we love. We will pray the novena
beginning August 27th every day at 4:00pm
until Sept 4th. We invite you to join us in
the church for prayer. There will be a mass
on September 5th at 4:00pm in her honor.
Treasures From Our Tradition
One of the most memorable images from the pontificate of
Pope John Paul II is not his shocked expression as he is hit by
a bullet, but rather his tender meeting with his assailant, and
his forgiveness. It is far more compelling because, although
people are struck by bullets every day, true reconciliation is in
relatively short supply. An outside observer might list
attempting to kill the pope as an unforgiveable sin, but of
course we know that forgiveness of sin is woven deeply into
our tradition of living as Christ did.
Interestingly enough, the Church took a hard line on these
matters early on. Until the second century, people expected
Christ’s return in the near future, so they deferred judgment
to him. Soon, however, bishops began to grant forgiveness for
sin after baptism, but only once. What we know as the
sacrament of penance takes its life from Jesus’ work of
reconciliation, but just as scripture shows Jesus forgiving
people in one life‑changing encounter, so the church granted
one chance only. Great sins were the target, such as idolatry,
adultery, and murder. Penance was lengthy, difficult, and
public, and the bishop was in charge of the process. For the
next several weeks, we’ll look at subsequent creative and
helpful changes in the celebration of this sacrament.

Vigesimo Segundo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
Hacer La Voluntad De Dios
El lenguaje de Jeremías al dirigir sus anhelos al Señor diciéndole: “Me has seducido, Señor, y me dejé seducir por
ti” (Jeremías 20:7), indica una relación muy íntima. Es una que
el profeta obviamente valora a pesar de los reproches y burlas
que le trae. En el Evangelio, Jesús indica un lazo similar con su
Padre. A pesar del difícil reto de seguir la voluntad de Dios,
Jesús no se detiene. Dejar atrás los cuidados del mundo y los
sueños, aunque sea para aceptar el dolor y el sufrimiento, es
más que un intercambio justo para hacer la voluntad de Dios.
La única manera de hacer la voluntad de Dios es ofrecer todo
nuestro ser a Dios. Como san Pablo escribe en la carta a los
romanos: “No sigan la corriente del mundo en que vivimos,
más bien transfórmense por la renovación de su mente” (Romanos 12:2a).
Tradiciones De Nuestra Fe
Más del 40% de la población católica en Estados Unidos es de
origen hispano y sólo el 6% de los sacerdotes son hispanos.
Hay algo que está mal en las cifras. Parte del problema es que
en los seminarios estadounidenses no saben qué hacer con las
vocaciones y culturas hispanas. Por otra parte, los hispanos
deseamos que nuestros hijos tengan mejor vida y la vocación
sacerdotal no constituye un lugar privilegiado en la escala social.
Ciertamente, había un tiempo en que los sacerdotes se trataban con mucho respeto, ya no. Últimamente la escasez de sacerdotes y los escándalos en la Iglesia han hecho que el sacerdocio pierda mucho de su encanto. La vida sacerdotal se ha
hecho muy difícil. Hoy día el joven que busca el sacerdocio lo
busca por servicio y vocación, no por prestigio o posición social.
El sacerdocio es un apostolado que se recibe con el sacramento del Orden. Ser ordenado es recibir órdenes, es decir, ser
obediente. Hoy más que nunca, el sacerdote está llamado a la
misma obediencia de Jesucristo, obediencia que lo llevó a la
cruz y a la resurrección. Oremos por nuestros sacerdotes para
que su entrega sea total.

Beata Madre Teresa de Calcuta
El 05 de septiembre es el 17 º aniversario
de la muerte de la Madre Teresa. En la
celebración de su vida y su testimonio
rezaremos una novena pidiendo su intercesión por nuestras necesidades y por
nuestros seres queridos. Vamos a rezar la
novena comenzando el 27 de agosto diariamente a las 4:00 pm hasta el 04 de
septiembre. Le invitamos a unirse a nosotros en la iglesia para la oración. Habrá
una misa el 05 de septiembre a las 4:00
pm en su honor.
