A trinity of meanings is a ributed to the word “recognize”, a) iden fy as already known, b) acknowledge
the existence, validity, character or claims of, and c) show apprecia on of. All apply to the coming of Christ.
The feast of John the Bap st (just a few weeks ago on June 24) puts the ma er in focus, but the process had
been on-going for centuries.
The prophets laid the founda on. There was Isaiah, Ezekiel, Nehemiah, and others who preached the future arrival of the
Son of God. Malachi pointed out, not only to the arrival but also to John as the final messenger, the master of ceremonies as it
were; “Now I am sending my messenger—he will prepare the way before me; and the lord whom you seek will come
suddenly to his temple…” (Mal 3:1).
Jesus confirmed that fact. He iden fied John’s role as already known. First he quoted Malachi, then added, “… he is Elijah,
the one who is to come. Whoever has ears ought to hear.” (Mt 11:14).
What did John say? “Make straight the way of the Lord.” And what else did he say? When Jesus approached him John
said, “I saw the Spirit come down from the sky and remain upon him….Now I have seen and tes fied that he is the son of
God.” (Jn 1:23,). The iden ty of Jesus was thus validated.
What about the element of apprecia on? Enter Jesus, John announced, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin
of the world.” (Jn 1:29). The Messiah had long last arrived.
May we con nually recognize that our existence is from God, our passport to heaven is a gi of the
Son and that John the Bap st sounded the wake-up call. See you in church.

Tres significados se aplican a la palabra "reconocer", a) iden ficar algo como es conocido, b) reconocer la existencia,
validez, carácter o reclamaciones de; y c) mostrar la apreciación de; todo esto puede ser aplicable a la venida de Cristo. La
fiesta de San Juan el Bau sta (hace tan sólo unas semanas, el pasado 24 de junio) se centra en esto, algo que ya había iniciado
hace siglos.
Fueron los profetas quienes asentaron las bases, Isaías, Ezequiel, Nehemías y algunos más que predicaban sobre la futura
venida del Hijo de Dios. Malaquías habló no sólo de la venida sino también señaló a Juan como el úl mo mensajero, siendo el
maestro de ceremonias que era, mencionó; "Voy a enviar mi mensajero para que me prepare el camino. El Señor a quienes
ustedes están buscando, va a entrar de pronto en su templo. ¡Ya llega el mensajero de la alianza que ustedes desean!... "(Mal.
3: 1).
Jesús confirmó lo anterior, reconoció el papel de Juan como había sido an cipado. Primero mencionó a Malaquías,
después agregó: "... Pero, si ustedes aceptan su mensaje, Juan es este Elías que había de venir. El que tenga oídos para oír,
que lo escuche. "(Mt 11, 14).
¿Qué fue lo que dijo Juan? "Enderecen el camino del Señor". ¿Y qué más dijo? Cuando Jesús se acercó a él, Juan dijo: "He
visto al Espíritu bajar del cielo como una paloma y quedarse sobre él... Sí, yo lo he visto, y declaro que éste es el Elegido de
Dios " (Jn 1, 23). Es entonces cuando la iden dad de Jesús queda comprobada.
¿Qué pasa con el componente de apreciación? Entra Jesús y anuncia Juan: "He aquí el Cordero de Dios, que quita el
pecado del mundo" (Jn 1, 29). Finalmente, llegaba el Mesías.
Que podamos reconocer con nuamente, que nuestra existencia viene de Dios, que nuestro pasaporte al cielo es un
regalo del Hijo y que Juan el Bau sta hizo el llamado de alerta… Nos vemos en la iglesia.

The in-gathering for St. Vincent de Paul is the first weekend
of every month. Items can be brought to Christ the King
Church before any Mass. Items may also be taken to St.
