Pastor’s Message
Dear Families and Friends of Saint Margaret Mary,
Happy Birthday! Today we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost, the
coming of the Holy Spirit upon the
Church 50 days after Christ’s Resurrection. On this day, the Catholic Church
was born..
In the Law of Moses, Pentecost was
originally known as the Feast of Weeks
or the Feast of Harvest. It was a day of
sacred rest and worship with prescribed
sacrifices to be offered.
In ancient Israel loaves
of bread were offered
to the Lord as a gift of
first fruits. Later, among
Greek speaking Jews it
came to called
“penetkoste” which
means “fiftieth” and refers to the timing of the
festival which took
place seven weeks after
the Spring celebration
of Passover.
Pentecost became
a Christian feast when
the Holy Spirit rushed
down on the apostles
50 days after our Lord’s
rising from the dead.
According to the Acts
of the Apostles, 40 days
after the Christ’s Resurrection, He Ascended into heaven, after which Mary
and the Apostles joyfully returned to Jerusalem, to the same upper room where
Jesus had instituted the Holy Eucharist.
There, they prayed the Church’s very first
nine-day novena. (Every novena we have
ever prayed since then is modeled on
this original one, whereby we invoke the
Spirit of God’s Love to come upon us in
power to constitute us witnesses of His
truth before the nations).
Mary’s prayer in the center of the
Church of the apostles was like a lightning rod irresistibly attracting God’s response from heaven. The Father who denies the Son nothing, together with the
Son, sent the Third Person of the Holy
Trinity to “enkindle in us the fire of His
love.” Sounding like a mighty wind and
appearing as tongues
of fire over their heads,
the apostles were filled
with power from on
high.
They burst through
locked doors, miraculously speaking the foreign tongues of the
various peoples gathered in Jerusalem for
the feast. That day,
they preached the
Good News without
fear or hesitation, with
Peter delivering a sermon that resulted in
the conversion of some
three thousand souls.
In later days, impelled
by the same Spirit, the
Apostles dauntlessly
went forth to preach the Gospel and to
give their lives as martyrs. Pentecost is
thus remembered as the founding of the
Church which is the bearer of God’s Spirit to the world. "Lord, send forth your
Spirit and renew the face of the earth!”

Estimadas familias y amigos de Santa Margarita María,
¡Feliz cumpleaños! Hoy celebramos la gran fiesta de Pentecostés, la venida del Espíritu Santo
sobre la Iglesia 50 días después de la resurrección de Cristo. En este día, la Iglesia Católica nació.
En la Ley de Moisés, el Pentecostés fue originalmente conocido como la Fiesta de las Semanas o
la Fiesta de la Cosecha. Fue un día de descanso sagrado y de culto con sacrificios prescritos que se
ofrecían.
En el antiguo Israel hogazas de pan se ofrecieron al Señor como un regalo de los primeros
frutos. Más tarde, entre los judíos de habla griega se le llamaba "penetkoste", que significa
"quincuagésimo" y se refiere al momento de la
fiesta que tuvo lugar siete semanas después de
la celebración de la Pascua de primavera.

Pentecostés se convirtió en una fiesta cristiana,

(Cada novena que hemos orado desde entonces

sobre nosotros en poder de constituir testigos
de su verdad ante las naciones).
La oración de María en el centro de la Iglesia de
los apóstoles era como un pararrayos que atrae
irresistiblemente la respuesta de Dios desde el
cielo. El padre que no le niega al Hijo nada, junto con el Hijo, envió a la Tercera Persona de la
Santísima Trinidad que "enciende en nosotros
el fuego de su amor." Sonando como un fuerte
viento y apareciendo en forma de lenguas de
fuego sobre sus cabezas, los apóstoles estaban
llenos de poder desde lo alto.
Irrumpieron a través de puertas cerradas, milagrosamente hablando lenguas extranjeras de los
diversos pueblos que se reunieron en Jerusalén
para la fiesta. Ese día, anunciaban la Buena
Nueva sin temor o vacilación, con Pedro entregando un sermón que dio lugar a la conversión
de unas tres mil almas.
En días posteriores, impulsados por el mismo
Espíritu, los Apóstoles fueron intrépidamente a

Solemn Eucharistic Procession

(Corpus Christi) on Sunday May 29th , at 1:30pm. Those children who have received their First Holy Communion

A JOURNEY OF FAITH
Over the next few weeks our newly Baptized parishioners will be sharing a short reflection of their Baptismal journey. A common theme that has
been prevalent in each of their reflections is the sense of welcoming they have experienced here. We never know when our smile, hello or kind
word can touch a person’s life and help them experience God’s Presence. Deacon Rick
Growing up on a dairy farm in rural central Maine, I was exposed to my family’s
Protestant values early in life. My mother a ended church most every Sunday,
while I a ended Sunday school. Once I reached my teens un l marriage in my
twen es, I took on my father’s tradi on which was Church pre y much on Easter
Sunday only. All during this me, though, I knew that God and Christ were present in my life.
Being in the military, my Wife, Sin Young, and I found good churches everywhere
we lived. A er leaving the military we have been very blessed in finding suppor ve Chris an communi es. About the turn of this century, due to family failures on my part I asked for God’s help in making me a be er person. The nearby
Methodist church and Pastor became influen al and provided me much needed
spiritual nourishment and guidance.
A er a family tragedy about 11 years ago, the Korean Catholic community became an amazingly helpful resource for my wife. Shortly therea er, she converted to Catholicism. About two years ago, she found St Margaret Mary Parish as
her place of comfort, friendship, and worship. I con nued to worship at my local
Methodist church and occasionally would accompany Sin Young to St. Margaret
Mary.
Last summer, I re red from work, and at that me Sin Young asked me to join the Catholic Church. For a short while I pondered this. Seeing that Catholicism did not do a lot of damage to my wife, I told her that I would take the classes and see
where it led me. This was not a difficult decision since I’d experienced intermi ent exposure to St. Margaret Mary parish, and
the people were welcoming.
My first connec on to the RCIA Program was from Deacon Rick. A er a few of the a er classes I started to get the hang of it
and figured out that I was ge ng into something very special. The young people in our RCIA Program (including sponsors)
have affirmed my hope in the future of our church, religion, and country. They are without excep on wonderful people dedicated to the be erment of humanity and our church community. The outstanding guidance we get from the RCIA instructors
makes every Sunday with them a God sent blessing. My first impression of Deacon Rick has been affirmed on many occasions
and I now also know what a deep down good person he truly is. The Priests and Deacons have been guest lecturers and
through this experience I can see what extraordinary men they are and what a blessing it is for us to have them leading our
Catholic faith journey.
My whole life I was under the impression that I had been bap zed as an infant but a er asking my older sister, she was empha c that none of us were bap zed. The ming of this epiphany was not good so I missed the Easter Vigil . Deacon Rick has
been very understanding and offered me a Sunday a ernoon bap sm with several young children. How appropriate I thought
this would be for me, a child of God, to be alongside these children to give myself to Christ. This was a blessing that only God
could have planned in its crea veness. Or was it Maureen Soria in her wisdom working behind the scenes to cra an event for
me that I will cherish ll God takes me from this earth. Thank you Sin Young my life partner, and thank you St Margaret Mary

EL ESPIRITU SANTO, EL ALMA DE LA IGLESIA.

Hoy celebramos la fiesta de Pentecostés, palabra
que significa “cincuenta días”. Esta fiesta era
celebrada por el pueblo judío mucho antes de la
venida de Cristo. Al comienzo fue la fiesta de la
siega, día de regocijo y de acción de gracias. En
esa ocasión se le ofrecía a Dios las primicias de
lo que había producido la tierra. Lo que hoy para nosotros es el Día de Acción de Gracias, que
celebramos aquí. Luego Pentecostés pasó a ser
una fiesta de aniversario de la alianza que tuvo
lugar unos cincuenta días después de la salida
de Egipto. Y el hecho de que hoy la iglesia esté
celebrando la fiesta de Pentecostés nos está diciendo que entre el Antiguo Testamento y el
Nuevo Testamento, no hay separación sino continuidad.
La venida del Espíritu Santo
En los hechos de los Apóstoles nos relatan la venida del Espíritu Santo como una gran manifestación del poder de Dios. El viento huracanado y
las lenguas de fuego son manifestaciones visibles del gran acontecimiento, que transformo a
los Apóstoles y le dio vida a la iglesia. Cuando
los Apóstoles empezaron a hablar en diferentes
lenguas y que todos los entendían, esa fue una
señal clara de la misión de la iglesia, a ser llamada signo de unidad de los hombres entre si y de
los hombres de Dios, cualquiera sea su raza, lenguas o color. Podemos decir que en Pentecostés
nació la iglesia y comenzó el tiempo del espíritu
Santo. La iglesia surgió a la vida pública y dio
comienzo la tarea de evangelizar al mundo, no
por la decisión de un grupo de personas, sino
por la fuerza transformadora del Espíritu. La
acción del Espíritu no fue una fuerza exterior,
sino un impulso interior que comenzó transformando el corazón de los Apóstoles. Esto quiere
decir que nosotros seremos auténticos apóstoles
de Cristo si nos dejamos transformar, renovar
profundamente por la acción del Espíritu. Pentecostés, como la resurrección de Cristo, fue solo
una vez, pero perdura como modelo de otras intervenciones del Espíritu. La iglesia vive un permanente Pentecostés porque el Espíritu no cesa
de comunicarse y sigue guiando a la iglesia con
su luz y su fuerza interior. Pentecostés debe ser,
entonces, una fiesta que señale un cambio profundo en nuestras vidas. El Espíritu de Dios que
vino sobre los Apóstoles y los lanzó a su misión
es el mismo Espíritu que había venido sobre Jesús en el bautismo del Jordán y en la sinagoga
de Nazaret, enviándolo a anunciar la Buena
Nueva a los pobres. Es el Espíritu que une a los
discípulos en la fe y el amor, enviándolos a luchar contra el pecado, la hipocresía y las injusticias del mundo.
Reflexión
Tenemos una gran tarea: evangelizar al mundo,
transformarnos para transformar, renovarnos
para renovar. Que el Espíritu Santo sea desde
hoy nuestro guía, nuestra luz y que nos haga
comprender lo que hasta ahora no habíamos entendido, y que este Pentecostés sea para cada
uno de nosotros el comienzo de una nueva vida
de compromiso y acción.

JORNADA DE FE
Crecí en una granja lechera en las zonas rurales del centro de Maine, estaba expuesto a los
valores protestantes de mi familia temprano en la vida. Mi madre iba a la iglesia todos los
domingos, mientras yo asistía a la escuela dominical. Una vez que llegué a mi adolescencia
hasta el matrimonio en mis veinte años, me hice cargo de la tradición de mi padre, que era
más o menos ir a la iglesia un solo día en Domingo de Pascua. Durante todo este tiempo,
sin embargo, sabía que Dios y Cristo estaban presentes en mi vida.
Estando en el ejército, mi esposa, Sin Young, y yo encontramos buenas iglesias en todas
las partes donde vivíamos. Después que deje el ejército hemos sido muy bendecidos en la
búsqueda de las comunidades cristianas de apoyo. Sobre el comienzo de este siglo, debido
a fallas en la familia de mi parte Pedí ayuda de Dios para hacerme una mejor persona. La
iglesia cercana Metodista y el pastor se convirtieron en influyentes y me proporcionaron
tanto necesitado alimento y guía espiritual.
Después de una tragedia familiar hace unos 11 años, la comunidad coreana católica se convirtió en un recurso increíblemente útil para mi esposa. Poco después, se convirtió al catolicismo. Hace aproximadamente dos años, encontró
La Iglesia de Santa Margarita María como un lugar de consuelo, de amistad, y de oración. Seguí yendo al culto en mi
iglesia Metodista local y ocasionalmente acompañaba a Sin Young a Santa Margarita María.
El verano pasado, me retiré del trabajo, y en ese momento me pedio Sin Young que me uniera a la Iglesia Católica.
Durante un breve tiempo medité eso. Al ver que el catolicismo no le hizo mucho daño a mi esposa, yo le dije que iba a
tomar las clases y a ver qué pasaba.. Esta no fue una decisión difícil ya que había experimentado la exposición intermitente de La Iglesia Santa Margarita María, y la gente era acogedora.
Mi primera conexión con el Programa de RICA fue el Diacono Rick. Después de algunas de las clases empecé acostumbrarme a ellas y me di cuenta de que me estaba metiendo en algo muy especial. Los jóvenes de nuestro Programa
de RICA (incluyendo patrocinadores) me han reafirmado mi esperanza en el futuro de nuestra iglesia, religión, y del
país. Ellos son, sin excepción, gente maravillosa personas dedicadas a la mejora de la humanidad y de nuestra comunidad de la Iglesia.
La guía excepcional que recibimos de los instructores de RICA hacen que todos los temas dominicales sean una bendición enviada de Dios. Mi primera impresión del Diacono Rick se ha reafirmado en muchas ocasiones y que ahora
también sé qué en el fondo es realmente persona . Los Sacerdotes y Diáconos han sido profesores invitados a través
de esta experiencia que yo puedo ver lo que los hombres extraordinarios son y qué la bendición es para nosotros contar con nuestra Jornada de Fe Católica nuestro camino de fe católica.
Toda mi vida estaba bajo la impresión de que había sido bautizado de niño, pero después de preguntarle a mi hermana mayor, ella hizo hincapié en que ninguno de nosotros fuimos bautizados. El momento de esta epifanía no era
bueno, así que me perdí la Vigilia de Pascua. El Diacono Rick ha sido muy comprensivo y me ofreció bautizarme en
un domingo por la tarde con varios niños pequeños. Pensé qué apropiado seria esto para mí, un hijo de Dios, estar
junto a estos niños y entregarme a Cristo. Esta fue una bendición que sólo Dios podría haber previsto en su creatividad. ¿O era Maureen Soria en su sabiduría trabajando entre bastidores para elaborar un acontecimiento para mí? voy
a respetarla hasta que Dios me lleve de esta tierra. Gracias a Sin Young mi compañera de vida, y gracias a La Iglesia
Santa Margarita María.

TOGETHER IN MISSION UPDATE

We are excited to report that we are very close to meeting our
2016 Together In Mission goal! As of May 5th, 570 families have
pledged $122,059, that is 96 % of our goal of $127,200. We are
closer to meeting our goal than we have been in years past. We
only have $5,141. to go!
All money that is paid that exceeds our goal is returned to the parish and we put it into our Christian Service program, which ensures
that all donations to this program go directly to those who have a
real need.
If you are one of the almost 1800 families who have not made a
pledge yet, please prayerfully consider helping our parish reach our goal. You do not have to pay today, simply fill
out the envelope and mark the “Pledge” box and the amount you are pledging, the Archdiocese will mail you payment envelopes. Envelopes are available in the pews or in the parish office or make a check out to “Together In Mission” and put it in the collection basket
A Year of Mercy Jubilee Pilgrimage to Italy
October 16—28, 2016
You are invited to join our pastor Father Paul O’Donnell, our former pastor Msgr. Marc Trudeau and our own Fr. Ricky
Viveros for a special pilgrimage to the holy sites of Italy, including Venice, Padua, Ravenna, Siena, Assisi and Orvieto. We culminate by entering the Holy Doors of Rome’s major basilicas and participate in an Audience with Pope
Francis.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
Would you or someone you know like to receive a
Prayer Shawl or Prayer Lap Blanket?
We are now offering hand knit and crocheted shawls and lap
blankets to the parish at large. Because we pray for the recipient as we create the items, uses include undergoing medical procedures, as comfort a er a loss, during prayer or medita on, and during an illness and recovery. There are endless
possibili es! All items from our ministry are blessed by a
priest.

Eucharistic Ministers News!
The next Eucharistic Ministry schedule for the English
Weekend Masses will run from June 4th through September 11th, 2016. So that we can distribute the new schedule
in advance, we'll need your input no later than Friday
May 20th, 2016.
For the time between and including June 4th through
September 11th, please let us know any dates that you will
not be available to serve. Also if your preferences have
changed, please let us know which of the Saturday and
Sunday weekly Masses you prefer.

THIS WEEK IN SMM HISTORY
May 14, 2000—A Church Enhancement Project
was announced with a cost of $500,000. Parishioners were asked to contribute $1 a day for one
year (or, a pledge of $365) towards the renovation project. In the next three months, over 900
parish families pledged $620,000.
May 18, 1969—Parish announced that every Sunday, the 9am Mass would now be for young people who wished to express their worship through
the use of contemporary music.
May 19, 1968—The parish hall opened. The
school’s Spring Concert was the first event in the
hall.
