My dear parishioners,
What is your relationship with the Blessed
Mother? Do you have a strong one with her? Or do
you not really even think of her? Are you devoted to
her under a particular title? Do you have a favorite devotion, like the rosary or the Miraculous Medal?
I remember when I first came back to the Catholic Church as a young man; I was confused by Mary’s
role. I was also confused by the different titles. When I
heard names like Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of
Fatima, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Skies,
Our Lady of Snows, etc., I was left wondering who
were all these ladies and why the Church honored
them. I did not realize that they were different titles
given to the same person, the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Sometimes the titles were given to her because she appeared in these locations or she was just honored by a
place that named her their patroness.
When I struggled with my faith, I had a hard
time understanding Mary’s role. I knew she gave birth
to Jesus and she was chosen by God to be the Mother
of the Redeemer. She only speaks seven different times
in the four Gospels. Why would I need Mary, when I
could go straight to Jesus? In my wrestling with these
questions, I came to a deeper appreciation of her role in
the Church and my own life.
Mary is the first and best disciple of the Lord.
She conceived of the Word in her womb after she assented to be his mother. Where would we be if she had
said no? If was by her fiat, her yes, that the Word became flesh in her. She trusted in God to bring about
these things, even if she did not understand them completely. She constantly trusted in the Lord. Her example shows us what it means to be a disciple. Mary’s docility and strength teaches us how to trust God.
The Lord Jesus also gave us Mary as our mother. On the cross, he entrusted her to St. John, but it was
also a word for us “Behold your mother.” Mary has
been that spiritual mother who has guided me throughout the years. Like a good mom, she has picked me up
when I have fallen, embraced me when I was sad, comforted me in struggles, encouraged me to move forward
and has given me chores over the years, big and small.
Like a good mom, she has loved me tenderly but has
also reproached me with her stern gaze. Most of all, she
has reveal her Son to me more so that I may love Him
more. She has been a good mother.

¿Cual es tu relación con la Santísima Madre?
¿Tienes una fuerte relación con ella? ¿O verdaderamente
ni siquiera piensas en ella? ¿Tienes una devoción a ella
bajo un título en particular? ¿Tienes una devoción favorita como el rosario o La Medalla Milagrosa?
Yo recuerdo que cuando regresé a la Iglesia
Católica en mi juventud, estuve confundido acerca del
papel de María en la Iglesia. También estuve confundido
por sus diferentes títulos. Cuando escuché nombres como
Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, Nuestra Señora de Fátima,
Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, Nuestra Señora del Cielo,
Nuestra Señora de la Nieve, etc., Me quedé pensando
quienes serían todas esas damas y porqué la Iglesia las
honraba. No me daba cuenta de que todos esos títulos se
le daban a la misma persona, la Santísima Virgen María.
Algunas veces el título se le dio porque ella se apareció en
esos lugares o se le honraba por un lugar que la nombró
su patrona.
Cuando yo luchaba con mi fe, me era difícil entender el papel de María. Yo sabía que ella había dado a luz a
Jesús y que había sido escogida por Dios para ser la Madre del Redentor. Ella solamente habla siete veces en los
cuatro Evangelios. ¿Porqué necesitaría yo a María,
cuando puedo ir directamente a Jesús? En mis luchas con
estas preguntas llegué a apreciar profundamente su papel
en la Iglesia y en mi propia vida.
María es la primera y la mejor discípula de
Nuestro Señor. Ella concibió la Palabra en su vientre después de que ella consintió ser su madre. ¿Dónde estaríamos si ella hubiera dicho que no? Fue por su fiat, su si,
que la Palabra se hizo carne en ella. Ella confió en Dios
para que realizara estas cosas, aunque ella no las entendiera completamente. Ella constantemente confió en el Señor. Su ejemplo nos muestra lo que quiere decir ser discípulo. La docilidad y fortaleza de María nos enseña como
confiar en Dios.
Jesús Nuestro Señor además nos dio a María como nuestra madre. En la cruz, El se la confió a San Juan,
pero fueron también palabras para nosotros “He ahí a su
madre.” María ha sido esa madre espiritual que me ha
guiado a través de los años. Como una buena madre, ella
me ha levantado cuando he caído, me ha abrazado cuando
he estado triste, me ha consolado en mis luchas, me ha
animado a seguir hacia adelante y me ha dado quehaceres
grandes y pequeños al pasar de los años. Como una buena
madre, ella me ha amado con ternura pero también me ha
reprochado con su mirada severa. Por sobretodo, ella me
ha revelado a su Hijo para que yo le ame más a El. Ella ha
sido una buena madre.

Parish Poland Pilgrimage
Recently Fr. O’Connor announced a parish pilgrimage to
Poland and the Czech Republic, July 2 – 11, 2017. Flyers
with more information are available at the entrances of the
church, in the rectory and on the parish website. Join us as
we walk in the footsteps of some of the great saints of the
last century, St. John Paul, St. Faustina and St. Maxmillian
Kolbe. Mass will be celebrated each day as we deepen our
faith. Join us as we travel to the land of the Divine Mercy
apparitions.

Join the St. Mary’s Children’s Choir!
What better way to serve the church, and our Lord Jesus Christ, than through the power
of music? Register your child to join our music ministry for FREE. Each practice will
take place in the new music room on Wednesdays at 5pm, after the 3:15 session of
Religious Education Classes, and we will be singing for Family Mass every month at
10am. The new music room is now located near the lower church, downstairs and to the
right from the bathroom. If interested, please pick up and fill out a choir registration
form at the back of the church, come see Miss Alexa after the 10am mass or email Miss
Alexa at [email protected] We hope to hear your beautiful voices soon!
Special Collection
There will be a special collection this weekend October 22-23 to help the
victims of the Hurricane Matthew. Please be generous.

parroquial a Polonia y la Republica Checa del 2 al 11 de julio

Únanse a nosotros para seguir los pasos de algunos grandes
