El Mayor Gozo
El apóstol Juan escribió a los cristianos del primer siglo, “No tengo yo mayor
gozo que este, el oír que mis hijos andan en la verdad” (3 Juan 4). Estas palabras fueron
escritas por Juan cuando él tenía casi 90 años o más después de haber visto los éxitos y
las luchas de los hermanos del primer siglo. Se puede imaginar el “abuelito” o
“bisabuelito”, hablando figurativamente, estaba dándolos el consejo espiritual para que
sigan adelante en la fe. ¿Y qué escribió Juan sobre la fuente de su gozo? La fuente de su
gozo, con respecto a los hermanos, vino del conocimiento que ellos estaban andando en
la verdad. ¿Cuál es la implicación de la palabra “verdad” con respecto al ando del
cristiano?
Andar en la verdad implica que el cristiano está caminando en la doctrina de Dios.
Juan había escrito, “Cualquiera que se extravía, y no persevera en la doctrina de Cristo,
no tiene a Dios, el que persevera en la doctrina de Cristo, ése tiene al Padre y al Hijo”
(2 Juan 9). Es imposible abandonar la doctrina de Dios y andar en la verdad.
Andar en la verdad implica que el cristiano está caminando en la luz de Dios. Juan
había escrito, “…si andamos en luz, como él está en luz, tenemos comunión unos con
otros, y la sangre de Jesucristo su Hijo nos limpia de todo pecado” (1 Juan 1:7). La
frase “andamos en luz” significa que el cristiano está viviendo en una manera que es
conforme a la voluntad de Dios.
Andar en la verdad implica que el cristiano está caminando con todo su corazón,
mente y ser. Juan había escrito, “pues si nuestro corazón nos reprende, mayor que
nuestro corazón es Dios, y él sabe todas las cosas” (1 Juan 3:20). El cristiano verdadero
debe ser una persona que está viviendo para Dios de corazón, disfruta la vida cristiana y
vive con la esperanza del hogar eterno. La vida del cristiano es completamente
consumada por Dios.
Andar en la verdad implica que el cristiano está siguiendo las pisadas de Jesús.
Juan había escrito, “porque la vida fue manifestada, y la hemos visto…” (1 Juan 1:2).
La vida de Jesucristo fue manifestada para darnos un ejemplo de cómo deberíamos vivir.
La pregunta para nosotros es, ¿qué hizo Jesús mientras que él estaba en la tierra? Él
siempre vivía para glorificar al Padre Celestial según su voluntad. Que andemos en la
verdad para traer el mayor gozo a nuestro Señor.

The Greater Joy
The Apostle John wrote to the Christians in the first Century, “I have no greater
joy than to hear that my children walk in the truth” (2 John 4). These words were written
by John when he was about 90 years old and after having seen the successes and trials of
the brethren in the first century. One can imagine the “grandfather” or “great
grandfather”, speaking figuratively he was giving them spiritual counsel in order that
they would go forward in the faith. What was the source of John’s joy? The source with
respect to the brethren was the knowledge that they were walking in the truth. What is the
implication of the word “truth” concerning the Christian’s walk?
To walk in the truth implies that the Christian is walking in the doctrine of God.
John had written, “Whoever transgresses and does no abide in the doctrine of Christ
does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the
Son” (2 John 9). It is impossible to abandon the doctrine of God and walk in the truth.
To walk in the truth implies that the Christian is walking in the light of God. John
had written, “…if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one
another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). The
phrase, “we walk in the light”, means that the Christian is living in a manner that
conforms to the will of God.
To walk in the truth implies that the Christian is walking with all of his heart,
mind and being. John had written, “For if our heart does not condemn us, we have
confidence toward God” (1 John 3:20). The truth Christian should be a person that is
living for God from the heart, enjoying the Christian life and living with the hope of an
eternal home. The life of the Christian is one that is completely consumed by God.
To walk in the truth implies that the Christian is following in the footsteps of
Jesus. John had written, “The life was manifested, and we have seen…” (1 John 1:2). The
life of Jesus Christ was manifested in order to leave us an example of how we should
live. The question for us is, what did Jesus do while he was here on the earth? He always
lived to glorify the Heavenly Father according to the Father’s will. May we walk in the
truth in order to bring the greater joy to our Lord.
