Just after a few days, as the adjusting period goes on, children feel more relieved and the home to school/dining hall transition becomes smoother. Each child has its own adaptation rhythm. We must leave them express their feelings, cry, getting annoyed… Actually, following the vacation period, children face many changes in their daily routine: they start getting up early, timetables and rules come back... It’s an enormous challenge. They need some time to trust their educators, and some children need more time than others to discover the new circumstances and achieve security. Some helpful practices to make their adjustment period easier: - Talk them about the dining hall; show yourself enthusiastic about all the things that they will learn there. - Try not to worry; avoid making too many questions about how they spent the day, so that they don’t feel overwhelmed. It’s important to give them the space and the time they need. When feeling confident, they will begin to express their feelings and telling their experiences, their day’s story... They will show us that they are finally feeling happy. * Having open communication with the dining hall staff is also essential to facilitate the adjustment period. Every information allowing to better know your children will be much appreciated.
