Dear Friends in Christ,
My letter this month presents to you the visions that I dream AND HOPE to see in our
community: UNITY, LOVE, & EVANGELIZATION.
UNITY – The unity of our church is based upon the unity that exists between the Father and Christ. Just as
Christ is one with the Father, and the Father is revealed through this unity with Christ, so the church is one with
Christ. Because Christ is one, the church must also be one. The unity of our parish exists in the fact that each
parishioner is identified with Christ and thus becomes part of his body. We are one because together we
constitute one mystical body of Christ. We are one because Jesus is our Head. We exist out of Him and in Him.
We are one in the same Spirit. The Spirit of God which is in me, is also in you. We are one because we were
all baptized into the body of Christ. We are one because there is one God and Father to us all. Because we are
children of the same Father, we are also brothers and sisters IN CHRIST; we belong to one spiritual family.
LOVE – It is the greatest mark of the church – the one that holds all of us together. Saint Paul, in 1 Corinthians
13:13, states, “So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” It was with that same
thought in mind when Christ said, “I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so
you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one
another.” (John 13:34-35) When we express love in relation to GOD and TO MAN, we will find Joy, Holiness,
Truth, Mission and Unity. Within our community, we need to love one another by first listening to one another.
Second, we should share. That is, we should let others share, and we ourselves should share. Third, we must
serve. We must listen, share, and serve. When we serve, we are to build our church in unity, mission, and love.
EVANGELIZATION – How should the gospel be presented? A bumper sticker states, “Friends don’t let
friends die without Jesus.” The goal of evangelization is to help others to know the fullness of life in Christ.
Catholics have a special commission to evangelize TO non-practicing Catholics, the baptized but un-churched,
and those alienated from the Church for whatever reason. We SHOULD reach out to those living without the
light of the world, Jesus. The laity are particularly ENTRUSTED with this work because they have so many
opportunities to evangelize in their daily LIVES. Evangelization is simply sharing our story (witness) within
trusting relationships, with those to whom our experiences and stories matter, as theirs matter to us. When our
lives revolve around our relationship with Christ, that relationship influences everything THAT we do and
WHO WE are.
Brothers and sisters, you and I need to walk together in this journey of faith, hand in hand, heart to heart, to
carry out the visions of our beautiful parish! It is my privilege to share with you my pastoral ministries, along
with its ups and downs. I am grateful to God for being able to serve you. I consider my work here a challenge
that is full of excitement and promise. With God nothing is impossible.
Please join Fr. Norbert Manduzia, the Episcopal Vicar of San Jacinto Deanery and myself for my Mass of
Installation on Saturday, August 23 at 5:00 P.M. At that time, I will be officially installed as the Pastor of St.
John of the Cross Catholic Church. May God continue to bless you and keep you in His grace.

Queridos Amigos en Cristo,
Mi carta de este mes representa las visiones que sueño y la esperanza de ver en nuestra comunidad: UNIDAD,
AMOR, Y EVANGELIZACIÓN.
UNIDAD - La unidad de nuestra Iglesia se basa en la unidad que existe entre el Padre y Cristo. Así como Cristo
es uno con el Padre, y el Padre se revela a través de esta unidad con Cristo, por lo que la Iglesia es una con
Cristo. Porque Cristo es uno, la iglesia también debe ser uno. Existe la unidad de nuestra parroquia en el hecho
de que cada feligrés se identifica con Cristo y por lo tanto se convierte en parte de su cuerpo. Somos uno porque
juntos constituimos un solo cuerpo místico de Cristo. Somos uno porque Jesús es nuestra Cabeza. Nosotros
existimos fuera de él y en él. Somos uno en el mismo Espíritu. El Espíritu de Dios que está en mí, también está
en ti. Somos uno porque todos hemos sido bautizados en el cuerpo de Cristo. Somos uno porque hay un solo
Dios y Padre de todos nosotros. Porque somos hijos de un mismo Padre, también somos hermanos y hermanas
en Cristo; pertenecemos a una sola familia espiritual.
AMOR - Es la mayor marca de la iglesia - la que nos sostiene a todos nosotros juntos. San Pablo, en 1
Corintios 13:13, declara: “Así que la fe, la esperanza, y el amor permanecen, estos tres; pero el mayor de ellos
es el amor “Fue con ese mismo pensamiento en mente cuando Cristo dijo: “Les doy un mandamiento nuevo:
amarnos unos a otros. Como yo los he amado, así también ámense ustedes los unos a los otros. En esto todos
conocerán que ustedes son mis discípulos, si os tenéis amor los unos a los otros.” (Juan 13:34-35) Cuando
expresamos amor en relación a Dios y al hombre, nos encontraremos con alegría, santidad, verdad, Misión y
Unidad. Dentro de nuestra comunidad, tenemos que amarnos unos a otros por primera escucha recíproca. En
segundo lugar, debemos compartir. Es decir, debemos dejar que otros comparten, y nosotros mismos debemos
compartir. En tercer lugar, hemos de servir. Debemos escuchar, compartir y servir. Cuando servimos, estamos
construyendo nuestra iglesia en la unidad, la misión y el amor.
EVANGELIZACIÓN - ¿Cómo debe presentarse el evangelio? A los estados para el parachoques, “Los amigos
no dejan que sus amigos mueran sin Jesús.” El objetivo de la evangelización es ayudar a otros a conocer la
plenitud de la vida en Cristo. Los católicos tienen una comisión especial para evangelizar a los católicos no
practicantes, los bautizados, pero sin ninguna iglesia, y los alejados de la Iglesia por la razón que sea. Debemos
acercarnos a los que viven sin la luz del mundo, Jesús. Los laicos están especialmente encargados de esta labor,
ya que tienen tantas oportunidades para evangelizar en sus vidas diarias. La evangelización es simplemente
compartir nuestra historia (testigo) dentro de relaciones de confianza, con los destinatarios de sus experiencias e
historias de materia, como la de ellos nos importan. Cuando nuestras vidas giran en torno a nuestra relación con
Cristo, esa relación influye en todo lo que hacemos y lo que somos.
¡Hermanos y hermanas, ustedes y yo tenemos que caminar juntos en este camino de fe, de la mano, de corazón
a corazón, para llevar a cabo la visión de nuestra hermosa parroquia! Es para mí un privilegio compartir con
ustedes mis ministerios pastorales, junto con sus altos y bajos. Agradezco a Dios por ser capaz de servirle.
Considero que mi trabajo aquí es un reto que está lleno de emociones y promesas. Para Dios nada es imposible.
Por favor únase a Fr. Norbert Manduzia, el Vicario Episcopal de San Jacinto Decanato y yo por mi misa de
instalación, el sábado 23 de agosto a las 5:00 p.m. En ese momento, voy a ser instalado oficialmente como el
Pastor de la Iglesia Católica de San Juan de la Cruz. Que Dios lo siga bendiciendo y le mantenga en su gracia.
