Dear SCANDIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Parent/Guardian:
From MARCH 16 - APRIL 2, our school will partner with the American Heart Association through Jump
Rope/Hoops For Heart! This community service project teaches our students the importance of heart health
(exercise, nutrition and living tobacco free) through fun activities. Students also have the opportunity to help
friends with sick hearts by raising money for the American Heart Association to fund research and educational
materials, and lower the risks of America’s #1 and #4 killers: heart disease and stroke.

MISSION FOCUSED: When your child talks about his/her reason for participating in Jump Rope/Hoops
For Heart (such as a lost loved one or a family history of heart disease), it helps them to connect the dots
to a healthier life and might even inspire a few other family members to live heart healthy too!

LIFE-SAVING DONATIONS: Use the attached collection envelope to track your donations. Students can
also reach out to friends and family by creating a webpage and sending emails. It’s fun, safe and easy!

NEW APP FOR SMART PHONES makes it easy for your child to text friends and family to join their
campaign to be a heart hero. Search Jump Rope/Hoops For Heart in the app store. It’s so easy!

GET YOUR DUCKS IN A ROW! Students who raise life-saving funds for the American Heart Association
will earn life-saving ducks. Collect all 6! See envelope for details.

DEADLINE: Return your donations in your child’s envelope by APRIL 2, 2015
If donating by check, please make checks payable to the American Heart Association. Also, remember to
include your donation report for any online donations. You can even check with your place of employment
to see if they offer a matching gift!

Meet London –
London is a spunky and smart 5 year old. You’d never know she had a special heart but
London was born with only one pumping chamber instead of two, like you. She has had
3 surgeries to help her heart and is happy to know there are friends like you helping kids
like her get better. Thank you for raising money to support the American Heart
Association.

Corazón a través de Jump Rope/Hoops For Heart! Este proyecto de servicio comunitario le enseña a nuestros
estudiantes la importancia de la buena salud del corazón (ejercicio, la buena nutrición, y vivir sin tabaco) a través
de actividades divertidas. Los estudiantes también tienen la oportunidad de recaudar fondos para la Asociación

Londres tiene 5 años de edad y es energética e inteligente. Nunca hubieras sabido que
tiene un corazón especial, pero Londres nació con una sola cámara de bombeo en lugar
de dos como tú. Ella ha tenido 3 cirugías para ayudar a su corazón y está feliz de saber
que hay amigos como ustedes que ayudan a niños como ella a mejorarse. Gracias por
