Military Leaders Speak about Leadership and Careers in the Military
On Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 1:30 pm, we will have guests from the Army Recruiting office speaking to our High School and CRLP
students. This leadership talk will cover jobs in the military, how STEM is incorporated into military jobs, how the military can help you
get to college, and how leadership works in the military. We invite you to join us for this informative 1 hour event.

Middle School Study Island Competition
The middle school ELA classes will be holding a competition the week of March 16-22, to see which Grade Level can earn the most Blue
Ribbons in their Study Island activities. Students work in Study Island weekly in class as a tutorial program for building strong TEKS
skills. The grade with the highest total will receive a prize from the ELA department at the Awards Assembly on March 27, 2015.
Study Island is holding a national competition to see which school can earn the most Blue Ribbons and the winning school will be given a
$1,000.00 prize. If you have any questions, please email Mr. Mulvey (6 th Grade), Ms. Jordan (7th Grade), or Ms. Rewitzer (8th Grade).
Recruiting Applicants Incentive
As you know we will be doubling our enrollment for grades K-8 next school year. For every three students that you refer your child will
receive a free shirt pass. Please see the front office for more information. Thank you for your support in helping us grow and reach more
students.
If you know somebody that wants to learn more about our school and educational programs, you may have them attend one of our open
house sessions. Presentations will take place every Thursday @ 6:00 PM and every Saturday @ 10:00 AM starting January 29th through
March 5, 2015. THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 2015.
NEW MIDDLE-HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING
It is a tremendous honor to present the following news. On January 6, 2015 the Carrollton City Council approved our proposed plan to
build a new Middle-High school facility. The new building will be ready for the new 2015-2016 school year. Please know that we will be
doubling our school enrollment for the next school year in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Share this information with your friends and
family as the lottery for the 2015-2016 school year will take place on March 21, 2015.
Thank you again parents, students and staff for your continued support. United as a school community we will continue to bring honor to
Harmony School of Innovation by cultivating the culture of high standards and expectations.

The Dish on Serving Up Healthy Meals for Kids

Fill Up with Veggies
ß Hold a family vegetable taste test to sample new foods.
ß Add vegetables to dishes your kids already like. Slip
zucchini into a spaghetti sauce, or add grated carrots,
lettuce and tomatoes to sandwiches.

ß Offer crisp vegetables with low-fat dips when kids are
most hungry.
ß Teach children how to grow vegetables, and their
desire to sample them grows as they watch the
vegetables ripen.

Keep Your Energy Up with Whole Grains
ß Look for whole wheat, whole grain or oats first on the
ingredient list.
ß Substitute brown rice or bulgur for potatoes and white rice.
ß Try whole wheat pasta or half whole wheat pasta.

ß Choose skinless chicken and turkey, fish, lean beef and
pork or beans.
ß Choose lean meat cuts with “loin” or “round” in the name—

Broil, grill, roast or poach instead of frying.
Substitute beans for meat once a week.

skim (fat-free) for adults and children over the age of 2.
ß Choose fat-free or low-fat yogurt, 1 percent milk fat
cottage cheese and lower fat cheese, such as part
skim mozzarella cheese.
Sweeten Up Your Choices with Fruit
ß Buy fruit in season to ensure the best taste (go to

ß Offer berries and bananas for the morning
cereal. Or slice up some citrus or melons.
ß Place a basket of fruit in the
refrigerator for easy access.
