Knights of Columbus Turkey Shoot:
The Long Island Council 197 Knights of
Columbus will have their annual Turkey
Shoot at the American Legion Hall, 209 Cross Bay
Boulevard, Broad Channel, on Saturday, November
19th at 8:00 PM (doors open at 7 PM). Many prizes
will be raffled. Free hot dogs, beer and wine will be
served—you may bring in goodies for your table.

marías. Después de reflexionar sobre las
enseñanzas de nuestra Virgen de Fátima,
vamos a usar los primeros sábados de cada mes para
unirnos en esta devoción mariana.
Por eso, el
sábado 3 de diciembre, rezamos en el sótano de la
iglesia – en la capilla abajo. Si quisieras ayudar en
rezar un parte del rosario, favor de dejar un mensaje
para nuestro diacono en formación – Carlos Pichardo
– en la rectoría.

DESDE EL ESCRITORIO DE LA HNA. ALICIA
As we continue our reflection on our deceased loved
ones, we turn to something rather new happening in our
Catholic families. It has always been the teaching and
Tradition of the Catholic Church that our deceased
loved ones be brought to the Church for the Funeral
Mass and then proceed to their final resting place in the
cemetery. A unique phenomenon seems to be
sprouting up: families are choosing a prayer in the
funeral parlor rather than the Holy Sacrifice of Mass
for their beloved and thus are proceeding to the
cemetery directly from the funeral parlor. While prayer
is always meritorious and good, there is no comparison
to the power of Holy Mass. In last week’s reflection,
we stressed how much the holy souls need our prayer,
especially the Holy Mass. If the obstacle to bringing
your loved one to the Church for a Funeral Mass is
monetary, please call Father Frank immediately.
Continuando con la reflexión sobre nuestros seres
queridos que han partido de este mundo, hablamos
de algo “nuevo” que está sucediendo en nuestras
familias Católicas. Siempre ha sido la Tradición de
la Iglesia Católica que se debe traer nuestros difuntos
a la Iglesia para su Misa de Cuerpo Presente y
después seguir al cementerio. Sin embargo, lo que
está pasando hoy día es que algunas familías escogen
un momento de oración en la funeraria; en lugar de
traer sus seres queridós a la Iglesia, deciden ir
directamente de la funeraria al cementerio. La
oración siempre es buena y eficaz, pero no hay
comparación con el valor y poder de la Misa. Si el
obstáculo de tener la Misa es a causa del costo, favor
llamar al Padre Frank. También muchas familias
están optando por la cremación. Desde Vaticano II,
la cremación es aceptable por la Iglesia; la excepción
sería si la persona no creyera en la resurección final.
Hay dos procesos de cremación: 1)Si la cremación
es después de la Misa, el cuerpo está presente y
después toma lugar la cremación. 2) si la cremación
toma lugar primero,se trae las cenizas en una urna
apropiada a la Iglesia para la Misa. Finalmente las
cenizas tienen que se sepultadas o puestas en un
“nicho” en el cementerio. “Las cenizas no deben
estar en la casa ni ser repartidas entre miembros de la
familia.”
More and more families are choosing cremation for
their loved ones. Since Vatican II cremation is
permitted in the Catholic Church. The only impediment
to this would be if the deceased had expressed his or
her desire to be cremated because they do not believe in
our final resurrection. There are two processes for
cremation: 1) If the cremation takes place after the
Funeral Mass, then the body is present at the Mass. 2)
If the cremation takes place first, then the ashes are
brought to the church in a proper urn for the celebration
of the Funeral Mass. The ashes must be buried or put
in a proper niche in the cemetery. Ashes cannot be at
home or divided among family members.
There will be a short meeting for all ministers
and the leaders of each group on Monday,
November 14 immediately following the 7 PM
Mass. We realize this is quick notice but the
finalization of our journal for the end of our
125th Anniversary is fast upon us. We need
your help and collaboration.
Cristo La Roca Food Sale: Our prayer
group Cristo La Roca will host a Food Sale
next Sunday, November 20th from 10:00
AM to 2:00 PM. Please come down to the
rectory basement for delicious Dominican
dishes. All proceeds go to our parish.
