“TOGETHER BUILDING THE KINGDOM OF GOD”

“SALVATION”
In Jesus’ day, tax collectors were not popular people. They were collaborators with the Romans
and were despised by many Jewish people. The tax system allowed them to charge more than what was
required so that they could make a profit for themselves. Thus, they were considered sinners by their
countrymen. Observers in the crowd that day grumble because Jesus dines with a sinner. Throughout
Scripture, Jesus’ choice of dinner companions set him apart from other observant Jews of his time. In
first century Jewish culture, to dine together was to show a bond of fellowship and peace among those
at the table. Observant Jews did not generally dine with foreigners and sinners. Yet, Jesus chooses to
honor the tax collector, Zacchaeus, by staying at his house.
Even before Jesus comes to his home, Zacchaeus shows himself to be someone in search of
salvation. Zacchaeus, described as short in stature, climbs a tree in order to see Jesus. We know from
Luke’s description that Zacchaeus was no ordinary tax collector; he was, in fact, the chief tax collector
and a person of some wealth. In his search for salvation, he humbled himself by making a spectacle of
himself by climbing a tree.
Jesus recognizes the faith of this tax collector exhibited in his search for salvation and calls him
down from the tree. In the hospitality he extends to Jesus and in his conversion of heart, Zacchaeus is
raised up by Jesus as a model of salvation.

Communion, Confirmation , or if you would like to become a Catholic, or if
you know someone who is interested, please call the rectory at 692-2005 and
give you name as soon as possible. The RCIA classes for adults will start soon.
Origin of All Saint’s Day as a feast of the Church
All Saints Day is a surprisingly old feast. It arose out of the Christian tradition
of celebrating the martyrdom of saints on the anniversary of their martyrdom.
When martyrdoms increased during the persecutions of the late Roman Empire,
local dioceses instituted a common feast day in order to ensure that all martyrs,
known and unknown, were properly honored.
By the late Fourth Century, this common feast was celebrated in Antioch, and
Saint Ephrem the Syrian mentioned it in a sermon in 373. In the early centuries,
this feast was celebrated in the Easter season, and the Eastern Churches, both
Catholic and Orthodox, still celebrate it then.
The current date of November 1 was instituted by Pope Gregory III (731-741),
when he consecrated a chapel to all the martyrs in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome
and ordered an annual celebration. This celebration was originally confined to
the diocese of Rome, but Pope Gregory IV (827-844) extended the feast to the
entire Church and ordered it to be celebrated on November 1.

What is necessary is that we be
content with little.
The custom of setting apart a special day for intercession for certain of the faithful
departed is very old. But the celebration of general intercession on 2 November
was first established by St. Odilo of Cluny (d. 1048) at his monastery of Cluny
in 998. This custom spread and in the Thirteenth Century, Rome put the feast
on the calendar of the entire Church. While 2 November remained the liturgical celebration, in time the entire month of November became associated in the
Western Catholic tradition with prayer for the departed; lists of names of those to
be remembered being placed in the proximity of the altar on which the sacrifice
of the mass is offered.

“JUNTOS CONSTRUYENDO EL REINO DE DIOS”
ZAQUEO
En el Zaqueo publicano, “pecador” ve la liturgia de la consagración de la Iglesia a la Iglesia salida
del mundo pagano y convertida a Cristo, a la salvación. Corto de estatura, inadvertido, despreciado por el
pueblo escogido de Israel, el paganismo desea vivamente poseer al Redentor que el judaísmo ha rechazado
en su ceguera. En Zaqueo el paganismo se adelante al pueblo de Israel y alcanza antes que él la salvación.
“El hijo del hombre ha venido a buscar y salvar lo que estaban perdido”. No he venido a llamar
a justos, sino a pecadores”. Examinense cuidadosamente si son “justos”. En este caso no he venido para
ustedes. Si queren que vaya a su encuentro, reconozcan que son pecadores. Hay que sentirse pequeño de
estatura para descubrir a Jesús, para conseguir que se descubra a nosotros.
Oye por la gente que viene Jesús, pero la gente le impide ver a Jesús. Nuestra fe en Jesucristo es
mediata, es más una fe en la Iglesia que nos habla de Jesucristo. Pero ¿quién de nosotros ha descubierto
a Jesucristo como salvador personal? ¿Quién hace un esfuerzo para subirse a lo altozanos que hay en la
Iglesia, para descubrir personalmente al Salvador?
Todos querían ver a Jesús, pero un hombre tenía más ganas que cualquier otro: Zaqueo. Y hace un
esfuerzo, sale de la masa encaramándose a un árbol.

LA SEGUNDA COLECTA de hoy es para nuestro programa de la Educación
Religiosa. Gracias.
TODOS LOS SANTOS. Mañana lunes es el Día de Todos los Santos. Para
celebrar ésta fiesta tendremos una misa a las 7:00 p.m. Todos están invitados.
DIA DE TODOS LOS DIFUNTOS. El 2 de noviembre es el Día de Todos los
Difuntos y tendremos dos misas, una a las 6:30 a.m. y otra bilingüe a las 7:00 p.m.
SOBRES DE LOS DIFUNTOS. Traigan sus sobres de los difuntos con los
nombres de sus seres queridos que han fallecido. Los tendremos en el altar y
estaremos rezando por ellos todo el mes de noviembre. Para quellos que no
tienen caja de sobres, tenemos sobres disponibles en la entrada de la iglesia.
EL MOVIMIENTO DE CURSILLOS le da las gracias a todos los que vinieron
y ayudaron con el proyecto de lavar y pintar el Salón de Hospitalidad. ¡Buen

SANTOS, MÁRTIRES Y HÉROES
El día de Todos los Santos, 1 de noviembre es una solemnidad cristiana en honor a
Todos los Santos conocidos y desconocidos. El Papa Urbano IV quiso compensar
en este día a todos los santos. La fiesta de Todos los Santos viene de la época de la
Iglesia Primitiva, los cristianos siempre han venerado a los mártires por su virtud
heroica, de ahí que se guarden sus reliquias, partes de sus cuerpos, sus ropajes...
de muchos de ellos. En la Roma pagana el fin del año era el 21 de febrero, era la
fecha que servía para darle descanso y paz a los difuntos con rezos y sacrificios
en su honor. Pero con la cristianización del imperio, se reemplazaron las prácticas
paganas y en mayo de 609 el Papa Bonifacio IV consagró el Panteón Romano
para ser el templo de la Santísima Vírgen y de todos los Mártires, momento en el
que comenzó la fiesta para todos los santos. Más tarde Gregorio III la transfirió al
1 de noviembre, y fue Gregorio IV el responsable de extenderla a toda la Iglesia.
DÍA DE LOS FIELES DIFUNTOS: 2 DE NOVIEMBRE
La Conmemoración de los Fieles Difuntos, popularmente llamada Día de Muertos o Día de los Fieles Difuntos, es una celebración cristiana que tiene lugar el
día 2 de noviembre, cuyo objetivo es orar por aquellos fieles que han acabado su
vida terrena y que se encuentran aún en estado de purificación en el Purgatorio.
Orar por los difuntos, es una práctica que viene de la Iglesia Primitiva. En el
siglo IV los benedictinos oraban por los difuntos el día después de Pentecostés.
En Alemania cerca del año 980 hubo una ceremonia consagrada a la oración de
los difuntos, bendecida por la Iglesia. Fue San Odilón u Odilo en el 980, al sur de
Francia, quien añadió la celebración del 2 de noviembre como fiesta para orar por
las almas de los fieles fallecidos. Se extendió entre los cartujo y los benedictinos.
Se acepto en Milán en el siglo XII, hasta ser aceptado el 2 de noviembre, como
fecha en la que la Iglesia celebraría esta fiesta.

Oración para abolir el aborto
Dios Padre, te agradezco por el obsequio de mi vida, por las vidas de todos mis hermanos y hermanas.
Sé que no hay nada que destruya la vida más que el aborto, y me regocijo al saber que Tú has conquistado la muerte con la Resurrección de Tu Hijo.
Estoy listo para poner de mi parte en la lucha para abolir el aborto. Este día me comprometo a
nunca más quedarme en silencio, nunca más quedarme pasivo, y nunca más olvidarme de los no nacidos.
Me comprometo a ser activo en los movimientos pro vida, y nunca dejar de luchar por la vida
hasta que todos mis hermanos y hermanas sean protegidos, y que nuestra nación sea de nuevo una
